Do you know what Love is?

Do you know what Love is?
I'm not sure now if I do.

Warning:
You may not after reading this either.

I have recently been to a sociology seminar,
And this is what I was told.

Love is not a True emotion.
"Love" is the effect, or bi-product of true emotions.

Considering hypotheticly this statment was true..which I did, using belief shifting..and came up with this little gingle.."Love is the snow on top of the mountain. The True emotions are the base with which Love stands on."

Sounds good right?

Part of my brain says "yes this statement is true because Human LOVE is not a universal LOVE. Human love is selfish love." There is no emotion which does not leave some kind of mark on the mind, and all marks are bad marks. The other part of me says what about Divine love. This surly must be a true emotion, or is divine love again the product of the universes true emotions?

Crowley gives this example is his book 4 Aleister crowley;
"Hope and fear are only opposite phases of a single emotion; both are incompatible with the purity of the soul. With the passions of man the case is somewhat different, not to be suppressed, but emotion is impressed from without. It is an invasion of the circle."

So with that said LOVE and HATE like hope and fear must also be attached at some point like the opposite phases of a single emotion example that crowley gives. But what about Pure love, is this 'universal love' that people speak of in Christianity, and Judaism, Muslims and Wiccans, some how attached to hate? OR Is this only the selfish human love that is attached to hate?

I thought that pure true universal Love can mend all heal the most wicked and drive them to good, with a simple touch of whom evers hand the universe has chosen to work through. There is something that does this and it is universal. Again crowley enlightens us a bit on this.
He wrights:
"There is, however a universal solvent and harmonizer, a certain dew which is so pure that a single drop of it cast into the water of the cup will for the time being bring all to perfection. This dew is called Love. Even as in the case of human love, the whole universe appears perfect to the man who is under its control, so is it, and much more, with the divine love of which it is now spoken."

"For human love is an excitement, not a stilling of the mind; and as it is bound to the individual, only leads to greater trouble in the end. The divine love on the contrary, is attached to no symbol."

MY LAST THOUGHTS:

If Universal LOVE is a true emotion, that is to say not attached to hate and an emotion unto itself. Then my personal love becomes invalid does it not? As I as a simple human can not provide "True Love". If Universal love is not a true emotion, then it is attached to hate, and there for not Universal nor true....

Did this just make Love that much more confusing or what!!??

I believe that there are two kinds of Love,
Universal Love and Individual love.

Neither out wieghts the other, both have pros and cons in my view; as Universal love is bound to the laws of "mutual benificial"; and expressed in its complete by no one person, but in the
"The unity Of duelity"

Individual love is expressed from the individual to the individual.
